Newly Diagnosed

If you have recently been diagnosed with Parkinson's, you probably have quite a few questions. You may want to find out more, or have specific questions or concerns not yet covered on this website.

If you do, please contact Parkinson’s Victoria directly. Our Client Service Officers can advise on a range of areas such as emotional issues for families dealing with the diagnosis, social and health care rights, welfare benefits, driving, insurance, and employment. We welcome calls from people with Parkinson's, carers and family members.

Please remember that Parkinson's affects people in very different ways, and no two people will have exactly the same symptoms or experience of Parkinson's.

In addition, your attitude to life is very important. If you have Parkinson's, try not to be discouraged or depressed if you find that your condition slows you down, or makes certain routine activities more difficult. Keep working at your own pace, and retain as many of your leisure activities as you can, and keep yourself as active and healthy as possible.

We are here to support you. If you would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact us or you can download our introductory booklet.

The Journey Information Kit and DVD are available for people who have been newly diagnosed with Parkinson's.

You can download the kit from the Publications section of our website, or you can order a copy by contacting us on (03) 9551 1122.

The Journey DVD is an 8-part educational video providing information for people who are recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. You can watch it online on our YouTube Channel.External site link

* Please remember that when searching the internet for more infomation about Parkinson's, try to stick to websites such as Parkinson's UK External site link and other reputable non-profit organisations.
