Aids & Equipment Overview
If you find your Parkinson’s symptoms interfering with everyday tasks, you should ask your health professional about aids and equipment. The right aids can make these tasks easier and help you remain mobile, safe and independent. Most commonly, people with Parkinson’s use aids to help with walking and mobility, continence, driving, communication and personal care.
The cost of purchasing equipment varies and is sometimes expensive. To help you cover these costs, the Victorian and Federal Governments offer a range of subsidy programs.
Please be aware: Health professional assessments and other application criteria are keys for entry into these subsidy programs.
Health
professionals can prescribe the right aids and equipment for
your needs and show you how to use equipment safely. You can get
aids and equipment assessments from general practitioners, occupational
therapists, physiotherapists, continence nurses or speech pathologists.
