Up to half of all people with Parkinson’s experience anxiety or depression at some stage (Beyondblue – Depression and Parkinson’s Disease External site link). This occurs as people have to cope with multiple practical and emotional adjustments, worry about an uncertain future and deal with stressful life events surrounding the progression of symptoms. For some people Parkinson’s can even have a direct impact on mental health, affecting brain chemicals that regulate mood.
