Work and Superannuation
Work, superannuation and insurances (including travel) are important to most people’s wellbeing and financial security. In each of these areas, Parkinson’s raises some important issues. So please take the time to research your rights and options before making any decisions.
To help you in your research, we’ve provided information, support and resources under the following six headings:
How does Parkinson’s affect my work, superannuation & insurance?
It is important to find out your workplace rights and obligations, your employer’s obligations to you and your superannuation options. While most people of working age often find they can continue to work for many years, at some stage you may face some important decisions such as changing your workload, adapting your duties or deciding when and how to stop work. If you’re thinking of stopping work because of Parkinson’s, you might be able to make a superannuation or disability insurance claim.
Please note, that there are several factors that can affect your ability to make a claim and the amount you can claim, so be sure to take the time to research this decision in advance, and certainly before telling your employer or insurer.
Be aware that terms and conditions vary between superannuation and insurance funds, making this area quite complex.
