Overview
Advocacy means defending and promoting your rights and interests. You should get in touch with an advocacy service if you need:
- Information and advice
- Help to get the services you need
- Help to sort out problems and exercise your rights
Depending on what you want, an advocacy service can either:
- Give you support so you can advocate for yourself
- Act as your representative, advocating under your instructions and on your behalf.
What issues can advocacy help me with?
Advocacy is provided for people facing life challenges, such as illness, disability and ageing. Some of the most common issues that advocates can help you with include:
