Young Onset Parkinson's Convention

Sydney, March 16-18th, 2012

Parkinson's Australia National Conference

Brisbane, 13-14 July 2012

The theme for the conference is 'Better knowledge, better outcomes'. All members of the Parkinson's community are encouraged to attend - people living with Parkinson's, their families, neurologists, allied health professionals, nurses, researchers, students and anyone with an interest in Parkinson's.

Michael J Fox interview

Michael J Fox recently gave an interview for CTV where he speaks about his life with Parkinson's and the work of the Fox Foundation. He considers himself a 'disruptive philantropist' to describe his committment to fund research and to have research results communicated openly to the Parkinson's community.

Parkinson's gets a mention in Parliament

On September 19th, Josh Frydenberg, MP, spoke in the House of Representatives on Parkinson's and the impact on the community that this condition has. Mr Frydenberg made his speech after meeting with members of the Men's Parkinson's group who meet at the Uniting Care Elgin Street Centre in Hawthorn.

Research Participation Opportunity

Have you had a stroke or been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease?

 

Common conditions associated with ageing, including stroke and Parkinson's disease, affect an individual's health, functioning and social participation. Social, cultural, economic and geographic factors influence how people adjust to life after a stroke or Parkinson's disease diagnosis. This project seeks to explore the understandings and experiences of people who have experienced one of these conditions; it also examines what factors might impact upon individual and family adjustment, and how and whether this changes over time.

Sign the Global Parkinson's Pledge ... and show your support for improved Parkinson's funding and support

Raise the voice of the Parkinson's community by adding your name to the Global Parkinson's Pledge. Launched at the recent World Parkinson's Congress in 2010, the Global Parkinson's Pledge seeks 1 million signatures to give a clear, strong message to governments, health agencies of the United Nations system, and patient-oriented non-governmental organizations (NGOs) throughout the world to improve resources, education and investment into Parkinson's.

ABC - 7:30 Report - Parkinson's drug accused of inciting compulsive behaviours

On Tuesday 26th July 2011, the 7:30 Report on ABC featured a story on the potential for dopamine agonist medication - commonly prescribed for Parkinson's and for Restless Legs Syndrome - to cause impulse control behaviour changes in some people. In some cases where people were not warned of the potential side-effects, the outcome has had a significant impact to the lives and relationships of those affected.
