Medication shortage - December Update
Dec. 11, 2018
Parkinson’s Victoria has been advised by pharmaceutical company, MSD, that the Sinemet supply issues experienced during the year are continuing.
Sinemet CR 200/50mg (controlled release) - the immediate supply has been restored. However MSD cannot rule out further supply issues in 2019 and has suggested people taking this strength of Sinemet discuss their options with their treating neurologist.
Sinemet 250/25mg- there continues to be a significant shortage and supply is not expected to be restored until after 31 March 2019. You should discuss your treatment options with your neurologist if you are taking this medication. A very limited supply is available but can only be requested by your doctor via MSD direct.
Sinemet 100/25mg - the shortage of this strength also continues, however the generic version of Kinson 100/25 can be used as a substitute. Most people should be able to swap over to this strength, however some people may find they experience slightly different symptom control as they swap between different versions of the same preparation.
